Rain,Rain Go Away

Could we say "hurricane, hurricane go away"? For those of us in the southern area of MS it is a time of great anticipation and anxiety awaiting the arrival of Gustav, aka Monster storm. All we can do is prepare and hope and pray for the best. Aug. 29, 2005 Katrina greeted us with fury. The definition of fury being described as a state of wildly excited activity or emotion. Katrina could not have been described better. Grim memories and nightmares of death and devastation remind us of Katrina's anger. Today Gustav is at our heels with full brunt expected tomorrow morning, Mon. Sept 1, 2008.
Gustav launches towards New Orleans/Gulfcoast area where 95% of New Orleans has been evacuated and Bay St Louis and Waveland are described as ghost towns. So, here we are watching the weather channel waiting for the "other shoe to drop."

Treasure

My heart is saddened today thinking of my college friend who is on chemotherapy. I want to share some of our "fun-times".

Remembering...
the time we took off from college traveling home in a snow storm, sliding off the road into a roadside ditch...me trying to "gun" the volkswagon and her trying to push it, resulting in a mud bath for her.HA!! tee-hee.

the time we sneeked out of the dorm away from the ever-watchful eyes of our dorm mother for a late night run to the do-nut shop leaving the back door ajar.

the time we tried to load a bicycle into the back seat of a volkswagon...she was pushing, I was pulling...HA! that was a site to see...along with a few "choice words" from her...this resulted in a broken hand.

As they say, those were the "fun days" of college, certainly nothing like today.

This friend survived Hurricane Katrina and the loss of her husband shortly thereafter. As the anniversary of these events arrive, I pray God will continue to give her strength and courage.

It is said a faithful friend is a strong defense and he that has found such a one has found a treasure.

I do believe I found a treasure. I pray God's blessings on her today.

Attitude Adjustments

Awww, isn't she cute? Looks like little Belle has had an attitude adjustment! HA! Something we all need from time to time. HA!! Especially her Papaw!!!!HA!!! Wonder if he will get her on the motorcycle one day. She will probably be in the driver seat and he will hangin on the back seat! Brruumm, brummmm, Harley rider. As you can see, she really is a good baby.

I spent a good portion of the day shopping for maternity support hosiery. Did you realize that is like looking for a needle in a hay stack? Never finding them, I returned home thoroughly exhausted and thanking God the hosiery was not for me but for my daughter-in-law. Our twins are well and growing nicely. Will keep you updated.

Don't mess with ME

Yesterday I was blessed to witness a miracle. This is our precious Belle. She is the granddaughter to "motorcycle man"! HA!
Belle really did not want to be bothered as she was quite happy where she had set up residence. But Mom and doctor uprooted her and as you can see she was not very happy about it. "Do not mess with me"!! (notice the hands)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to our family, God's "little angel". We love you.

Seeing Double, seeing double

Nope, you're not seeing double!! IT'S TWINS!
How amazing. We learned this yesterday. My son and his wife are still in shock. How fun is this going to be??? My son and his wife went to the doctor yesterday to learn the gender and wow did they get more than they bargained for. HA!! 2 in 1 packaged deal!! 2 everything, 2 stollers, 2 walkers, 2 highchairs, 2 car seats, 2 cribs and on it goes, not to mention diapers and formula......I told him God does not make mistakes and He doesn't put more on us than we can bear.

P.S. Twice the fun and twice the lovin!!

congrats...

Michael Phelps just won his 8th Gold medal during the 2008 Beijing China Olympics. I have enjoyed watching the ability,agility,talent,dedication,perseverance,athleticism.... need I say more, OMG. Congratulations on a job well done! The large screen HD TV made it even better!!

Ok, enough about that...as you can see I have added some gadgets (I love gadgets, according to my daughter in law). The playlist I-Pod can be turned off if you find it irritating. I'm not sure yet if I like it or not. Let me know your thoughts about it. I may take it off. Also, you will see the cook it, blog it logo. If you click on this you will find tons of recipes. I enjoy reading recipes not necessarily cooking them! HA! I leave the cooking now days to Pappy, ASA "Big Rick" or grill man. I spent too many years cookin while raising the "boys"...you know what I mean. I like to think of my self as semi-retired. My spare-time is spent sewing, reading, bloggin, traveling...right now we are getting ready for a trip to the Bahamas (CAN HARDLY WAIT) hopefully we won't be greeted by any hurricanes. Our trip is scheduled for Sept 12. Will post pictures when we return. More on this later.

Back by popular demand

Sorry girls this is the best I can do for close-ups. This is actually my "little" brother. In remembering days gone by, I recall long hot summer days playing "blind mans bluff" (him letting me fall into a culvert), bicycle rides (him wrecking me) and swinging on a old tire strung up in a tree by a rope (me swinging him into the tree, tee-hee). Night time memories were of fireflies caught in a jar, games of chase, and a fan blowing the hot still air. All these memories capture the essence of a childhood summer.
Our roots say were are brother and sister, our hearts say we are friends. I love you, little brother.

Happy Birthday

Last night was a Happy Birthday celebration. Our older son turned thirty-two yesterday. Of course, I had him while I was in kindergarten!! JK JK JK Where does the time go? Just yesterday he was "playing tractors" on the living room carpet daring anyone to spoil his perfect rows of cotton. Somedays I still get a glimpse of that little boy. I wish him success in life and while I don't say it enough I'm grateful for all that he is and all that he has become. He is my heart--my joy--he is my SON.

Why YaYa?

You might ask, why YaYa? Recently learning and anticipating the arrival of a grandchild, I wanted to choose a name that was unique and spunky... thus YaYa which is Greek for "grandmother". Unknowingly, it is the same name my best friend had chosen for her "one-day" grandchildren! How funny! I guess that says alot about "best friends".
